Winterreise 1

It’s cold outside… so a sleighride seems a fitting tribute to today. Enjoy!

I love this spinning top – not just the movement but the jingling sound – reminds me of sleigh-bells. I assume it is from the 60s or 70s former Soviet Union.

If there is anyone out there who knows what the ‘AP’ or ‘AR (I assume the P is the Cyrillic for ‘R’) stands for, please do let me know. And I hope you’re keeping warm!

A note on the ‘cover’ image: The illustrator is not mentioned – so again, any tip is welcome! It is from the cover of the first of 2 records accompanying “Der arme Millionär”: A BBC Radio course in everyday German based on Erich Kästner’s novel ‘Drei Männer im Schnee’ (1967).

  1. A cool Christmassy spinning top! Good luck trying to research the stamp markings – the initials of the company? The person who made it? The numbers might be an indication of how many were made, or what type of mould(s) it came from if it was mass produced.
