Just a brief, belated ‘Happy Birthday’ to Hans-Christian Andersen (2 April 1805 – 4 August 1875) and a Thank You – his tales have been a constant companion to me. Below are wall-tiles which I found at a flea-market in Copenhagen years ago. They were made in Germany, though – by ‘Boizenburg Fliesen’ and I am glad to report that this company still exists.
I love that the motifs are handpainted – see the difference in the tiles of the ‘Little Match Girl’. I have no idea how old they are – the colour scheme would suggest 1950’s.
As it’s a hot, hot Summer Day in London today, I leave you with this lovely quote from ‘Thumbelina’.
Just living is not enough,” said the butterfly, “one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.
I couldn’t agree more!
Cute plates! I nominated you for the Penable Award, I love your posts. 🙂
Thank you so much! I love your posts, too! I haven’t found a way to comment on them – let me know if I’m missing something – all I can do at present is ‘like’ them (and really there should be a ‘Love’ button 🙂
What a beautiful post !! Thank you.
