Modes of Travel – 4

As it’s rather a bleak (weather-wise) day in London today, I’m cheering myself up with a little look through my record collection. Not so much for the music – but for aspirational covers. Fly away with me!

I’d want to go as quickly as possible, so might have chosen the Concorde (if it were still around).

1967 issue – the Concorde was still being tested

Then the question of where to go.. an island would be nice..and it would have to be stylish

1953 – I do love my 50s design…

Or I could go in a more environmentally-friendly style

A magical cover – originally released in 1957 by the New World Theatre Orchestra as ‘Honeymoon in Manhattan’, this seems to be a promotional copy. ‘Golden Guinea’ was launched in 1959 as budget subsidiary of Pye

I am extremely grateful to Dharmdev Maurya of the Air-India Collector blog (check it out, it is full of interesting facts and images!). He provided the information that Air-India began a twice-weekly service from London to New York with Boeing 707-437s on 14 May 1960.

Wishing you sunny days and lovely holidays ahead!
