Back to School – with style

I can’t resist stepping back in time, particularly if an object is as lovely as this. The “Campus Queen” steel lunch box was made in 1967. It even included a thermos flask (mine no longer has this, and it is showing its age, but I love it just the same). Great illustrations of student life on the sides, and on the back, a game takes you from study hall to the prom, with stops at the Soda Fountain, Movies, and Beauty parlour.

I’d have been proud to show this off at school
The crown and 2 magnets are lost – but still playable!
groovy – love the colours
you really should be in class…
great after-school/class fun

Thanks to YouTube, you can also spot it in the music video for Cyndi Lauper’s 1984 number one hit, “Time After Time.”

The lunchbox can briefly be seen at 1:15 – 1:19 and 4:23 – 4:25!

Have a happy September!

  1. A superb snapshot from your collection, Wibi. I love how the artwork reminds me of the 1960s Barbie catalogue designs. Those metal lunchbox and thermos packages have been popular for some time, covering many franchises from Marvel to DC to Star Wars and more. Your Campus Queen one is a standout, as it has the game on the reverse. Very cool! 😎
